Joint Injections (Knee, Hip, Shoulder, Elbow, Finger)

Joint injections target different joints such as knee, elbow, finger and hips. These injections can range from corticosteroids, hyaluronic acid, and platelet-rich plasma injections which are known as minimally invasive procedures that can reduce inflammation and relieve pain in your joints.

 

Shoulder Injection

Shoulder injections are performed for shoulder arthritis, frozen shoulder (also known as calcific tendonitis) which is a condition where your shoulder is completely or partially unmovable due to nerve pain from your neck, subacromial impingement/bursitis, rotator cuff impingement/tendinosis, biceps tendonitis and osteoarthritis of the joints. Corticosteroids are used to reduce swelling and inflammation on shoulder joints. During the shoulder injection, a local anesthetic will be given to numb the area temporarily. Then, the needle is placed into the soft tissues and joints using an imaged guidance known as an ultrasound to release the steroid into the targeted joints.

 

Hip Injection

In the case of an injury, mechanical stress, or arthritis, hip injections may be considered for patients with these symptoms. The purpose of hip injection is to help diagnose the source of pain as well as alleviate discomfort. The hip is a ball and socket joint located where the thigh bone meets the pelvis and the cartilage between the two bones allow them to move against each other. During the procedure, a local anesthetic will be given to numb the area temporarily and the cortisone steroid is then injected into these joints to reduce inflammation, which can often provide long term pain relief. During this procedure, fluoroscopy is commonly used for guidance in properly targeting and placing the needle.

 

Knee Injection

Knee pain and stiffness arise from various diseases of the knee joint. Knee injections are used to treat joint pain resulting from ligament or tendon injury, fracture, cartilage loss in osteoarthritis, and inflammatory conditions such as inflammatory arthritis. During the procedure, a local anesthetic will be given to numb the area temporarily and the cortisone steroid is then injected into these joints to reduce inflammation in individuals resulting from but not limited to: osteoarthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and rheumatoid arthritic knees.

 

Elbow Injection

Elbow injection is a procedure for the elbow joint related to pain caused by inflammation, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. The procedure involves injecting the elbow joint with an analgesic to reduce pain and corticosteroid which is an anti-inflammatory medication. An elbow injection helps to alleviate symptoms including but not limited to: pain, inflammation, stiffness and reduced range of movement within the elbow joint.
